- ORIGINS & FORMATION | Clay minerals are most commonly formed by prolonged weathering of silicate-bearing rocks. They can also form from hydrothermal activity. Which clay minerals are formed depends on the composition of the source rock, the climate, and even tectonic activity. The main clay producing minerals being silicate, alumina and magnesia.
- COMPOSITION | Our Siberian yellow clay is composed primarily of silica and water, as with most clays. However, due to its geographical surroundings it also contains zinc, magnesium, iron, copper and calcium. Some of these minerals contribute to its yellow hue. The colour of the clay can vary from a very pale pastel to a more vibrant yellow depending on the exact composition and different quantities of the previously noted minerals.
