The Brass Mills will tarnish and patina as these are natural, unlacquered brass. This is not a defect. Use a brass cleaner to clean the exterior brass for that golden look.
Salt Mill: The salt mill has a strong food safe plastic mechanism (40% glass), 38mm diameter and stainless-steel shaft to prevent corrosion. The salt mill has a strong plastic grinding mechanism and can be used to grind a variety of salts, coarse, Himalayan and even grounded salt. Grinds directly on food.Use Pink, Himalayan rock crystals (not too large) Greek or Kosher Salt. DO NOT USE Salt Flakes, Grey Salt or Wet as these type of salts will clog the mechanism.

Grinds directly over food. Note: Prior to using your mill for the first time please pass a few pepper corns through then discard in order to clean the inner mechanism.
Grind preferences: For a finer grind turn the screw clockwise and counter clockwise for a coarser grind.
Filling your pepper mill: To insert pepper corns, unscrew the bolt at the top of the mill and remove the top. Fill the pepper mill and replace the top and the bolt.
Do not use Salt in the Pepper Mill or Pepper in the Salt Mill. They are manufactured specifically for their type of spice.
